How do you celebrate holidays?

The Holidays start early in the Philippines. The celebration includes everything and culminates in New Years Day. Being an Expat I include some personal and US holidays in the Holiday Season.

Starting on September 17, I celebrate Occupy Day. This is the day I commerate the latgest peaceful mass protest of government correption which began on September 17, 2011, and is commerated every September for the past 13 years. This year I am gathering all my archival post and reposting them to a WordPress site.

Next comes October. Octuber is full of celebrations. There is my wife’s birthday. Then my birthday. Finally culminating in Halloween on October 31st.

Halloween in the Philippines is not the same as it is in the states. And come that point in time I’ll have several post which explain the differences between Halloween in the States and Halloween in the Philippines. Not to be slacking, I am also reposting the Ghost stories I collected starting on October 11th. There is much to look ahead to.

November begins with All Saint’s Day on the first, and All Souls’ Day on the second. Those are explained in detail on the respective days. I can’t give it away too soon or you’ve nothing to anticipate.

There is also Veterans Day commerating the end of World War One. That again is primarily a Western Hiliday, and is commerated with another special post of the day.

The third Thursday in November is Thanksgiving in the US. Last year we celebrated by buying rice and sides for all of the local families and delivering them Santa Clause style to the respective families. This year we are going to cook up two pots of Spaghetti (no turkey in our part of the Philippines). One pot will be the Philippines’ Sweet Spaghetti with Hot Dogs, and the other pot will be a more traditional Italian Spaghetti.

Then comes December. On December 12th we here have Fiesta celebrating Our Lasy of Guatalupia. The locals slotter the fat pig they’ve saved up for all year. And everone enjoyes a massive meal and festivities. That too will have a post of its own on that special occasion.

Next comes Christmas. I cant give it all away too soon, yet I can tell you it is an occasion filled with families, and children, and caroling, and sweet treets simular to any western holiday, but full of uniquely Filipino traditions.

In the end there is New Years Eve with food, Noisemakers, Sirens, and coins for the Children. On January 1st we smile, and slowly awaken, and get on with the business of the new year.
