In a bold and melodic move to resolve ongoing tensions in the West Philippine Sea, the Atin Ito Coalition has announced its third “feel-good” civilian mission, scheduled to set sail on May 25, 2025. This initiative, which boasts a combination of karaoke and solidarity, aims to promote peace while simultaneously accusing China of being tone-deaf to international law.
At a press conference yesterday, coalition co-convener and Akbayan party-list president Rafaela David enthusiastically declared, “Who needs warships and military might when we have the power of music?” She continued, “We’re trading missiles for melodies. Instead of bombs, we’ll drop some sick beats!”
This upcoming concert at sea promises to feature hit tracks from famous Filipino musician Noel Cabangon and the equally famed rock group Rouge, while Japanese artist Fumiya Sankai will support the cause via an incredibly heartfelt video message—because nothing screams diplomacy like a heartfelt emoji-laden text.
“Music is the universal language!” David clarified, apparently referring to the popular belief that remixes have the ability to disarm even the most aggressive of naval forces. “We hope to create an atmosphere so peaceful that even China’s aircraft carriers will be tempted to join our band instead of engaging in territorial disputes.”
The anticipated mission follows two previous attempts to engage China in a musical exchange in December 2023 and May 2024, where ‘singing fishers’ reportedly raised more eyebrows than awareness. Edicio Dela Torre, another coalition member, took to the mic to explain, “These missions are about turning geopolitical conflicts into musical events. If we can’t settle this through international treaties, at least we can do it through a flash mob!”
In a surprising twist, WPS advocate Kiko Aquino Dee even urged Filipinos to “vote for leaders who will actually sing the right verses in the face of adversity.” This reverberating call to civic action takes on a new meaning with a promotional refrain: “Vote for the candidate with the best vocal range!”
Amidst the backdrop of geopolitical tensions currently screaming “Territorial Clash,” the Philippines continues to assert that the West Philippine Sea—now considered its musical playground—falls well within the bounds of its 370-kilometer exclusive economic zone. Filipino fishermen, often caught trying to outsing Chinese Coast Guard vessels, have already voiced their concerns about who really holds the copyright to these waters.
With the 2016 Permanent Court of Arbitration ruling long forgotten under layers of pitch pipes, the coalition’s commitment to peace now rests on their ability to stage an epic ‘concert of the century.’ As they sail closer to their musical mission, the Atin Ito Coalition insists that all efforts will transform not just the narrative, but also the high seas into an arena of cultural diplomacy.
As the date approaches, the coalition aims not only to sing their way toward peace but also to make the West Philippine Sea the new hotspot for reality concerts while hoping their message of sovereignty reaches even the Cyrus of the seas—China.
