I am a Roman Catholic, having been raised in the faith but diverging from it at the age of 13. My journey has been profound and transformative, particularly during the past 52 years. After grappling with different beliefs, including my own version of Paganism, I recognized that these paths were not fulfilling. I sought my roots, which led me back to my Catholic upbringing, driven by a desire to understand the essence of the original Church: Roman Catholicism or Orthodoxy.
Reconnecting with my faith has given me clarity, especially as I learned about the misconceptions and misinformation surrounding the Catholic Church, particularly in the context of American subcultures. Daily practices such as prayer and saying Grace have become a vital part of my routine. The simplicity and depth of the Our Father resonate deeply with me; its message of relinquishing our wills to a greater good serves as a powerful reminder amidst life’s challenges.
My beliefs profoundly shape how I engage with the world. The teachings of the Catholic catechism that all people are “good but broken” remain central to my understanding of humanity. This perspective fosters compassion and patience as I navigate my relationships and community.
Looking ahead, my faith is a beacon of hope—a belief in the possibility of transformation through God’s love. While I recognize the brokenness of our world and the challenges we face, I remain committed to the teachings that encourage us to consider others and strive for goodness. Whether or not God exists, the principles that guide us to treat one another with respect and kindness are invaluable.
In embracing my faith, I continue to explore its teachings, seeking a deeper connection and understanding, while being mindful of the complexities of life and the enduring human spirit.
