This did not start with a newsroom.
It started with a refurbished Dell desktop. No one remembers the model. It ran until it didn’t—shut down one day around 2015 and never came back.
From there, it moved to a cheap laptop. Another Dell. Barely usable. Then a Chromebook that lasted a couple of years before it followed the same path as everything else.
That’s the pattern.
Use it until it dies. Replace it with whatever is affordable. Keep going.
Since August 2025, most of this work has been done on a phone.
An Infinix. Not top of the line. Not built for long-form writing, publishing workflows, or managing an archive.
Just… what was available.
In February 2026, a $200 Samsung tablet was added. It helps, but not as much as you’d think. Posting through Jetpack still often happens faster on the phone.
So that’s the setup.
No newsroom.
No staff.
No funding.
Just one person, working through whatever tools are on hand.
The Work Itself
Since 2009, this has been a continuous effort to document patterns.
Not just events.
Patterns.
What changes.
What doesn’t.
What becomes normalized over time.
More than 5,000 pieces have been written, archived, and maintained across that span.
Not optimized for virality.
Not designed for algorithms.
Built to exist. Built to persist.
Constraint Is the Default
There’s a tendency to assume that work like this comes out of infrastructure.
Teams. Budgets. Equipment.
Most of the time, it doesn’t.
Most of the time, it looks like this:
- outdated hardware
- limited access
- inconsistent tools
- constant adaptation
And still, the work continues.
Because the alternative is to stop.
Why It Exists Anyway
The modern information environment is built for speed.
Fast content. Fast reactions. Fast replacement.
What gets lost in that process is continuity.
Without continuity, there is no long-term record.
Without a long-term record, patterns disappear.
This archive exists to prevent that.
Not because it is easy.
Not because it is supported.
Because it is necessary.
No Illusions
This is not a viral operation.
It does not reach millions.
Most of the time, it moves quietly.
But it moves.
And it continues.
That’s the point.
If you think work like this should exist—if you think it has value—then take a look, share it, or carry it forward in whatever way makes sense to you.
That’s how it grows.
That’s how anything like this grows.
