Contrary to social media postings, Hudson Hawk is still flying high.

Every few months, another celebrity death hoax makes the rounds on social media. This week, it was Bruce Willis. Despite posts claiming otherwise, Willis is still alive, though he has retired from acting due to frontotemporal dementia (FTD), a progressive neurological disorder that affects speech, behavior, and cognitive function.

For millions of fans, Bruce Willis will always be remembered as one of Hollywood’s most recognizable action stars. His breakout role came in the television series Moonlighting, where he portrayed the fast-talking private detective David Addison alongside Cybill Shepherd. The series helped redefine television comedy-drama during the 1980s and launched Willis into superstardom.

That success carried directly into what became one of the greatest action films ever made: Die Hard (1988). As New York police officer John McClane, Willis transformed the modern action hero into someone who was vulnerable, sarcastic, bruised, and very human. The film spawned a successful franchise and cemented his place in cinema history.

Willis also proved he could handle comedy just as effectively. Hudson Hawk (1991), while divisive among critics, has developed a loyal cult following thanks to its quirky humor, over-the-top villains, and Willis’ charismatic performance as master thief Eddie “Hudson Hawk” Hawkins.

His filmography extends far beyond those signature roles. Among his best-known films are Pulp Fiction, 12 Monkeys, The Fifth Element, Armageddon, The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Sin City, Looper, and RED. Across more than four decades, Willis demonstrated an uncommon ability to move between action, science fiction, drama, comedy, and psychological thrillers.

In 2022, Willis’ family announced that he had been diagnosed with aphasia. The following year, they revealed that the underlying cause was frontotemporal dementia. Since then, he has stepped away from public life while receiving care from his family, including his wife Emma Heming Willis, his daughters, and former wife Demi Moore, who have frequently expressed their appreciation for the support shown by fans around the world.

The next time a celebrity death notice appears on social media, it is worth taking a moment to verify the information before sharing it. In Bruce Willis’ case, the reports of his passing are simply untrue.

For now, John McClane is still with us—and somewhere in the imagination of movie fans everywhere, Hudson Hawk is still flying high.
