What is the Stealth Runner?

The Kraken’s Kiss is a civilian, unarmed sea craft designed to support Filipino fisherfolk and maritime operators in the West Philippine Sea. It’s built with 100% native Philippine materials by Filipino artisans, prioritizing sustainability and local economic empowerment.

Features:

  • Low Radar Profile & Quiet Operation: The wooden construction minimizes radar signature, while a muffled engine and specially designed propeller ensure minimal noise pollution, ideal for assisting fisherfolk without disturbing marine life.
  • Durability & Affordability: It’s heavier and sturdier than fiberglass alternatives and built to withstand harsh sea conditions. It’s also a cost-effective solution at $49,000 USD compared to steel options.
  • NGO Focus & UN Compliance: The Stealth Runner operates within the guidelines of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea regulations, adhering to peaceful civilian operations.

Purpose:

The Kraken’s Kiss aims to address the challenges faced by Filipino fisherfolk in the West Philippine Sea due to ongoing territorial disputes. It offers a non-violent solution to protect themselves and their resources.

Benefits:

  • Enhanced Security: Kraken’s Kiss will create a safer environment for Filipino fishers to operate by deterring illegal activities.
  • Evidence Gathering: The boats will be equipped to collect evidence of illegal actions, which can be used for legal pursuits.
  • Improved Monitoring: Increased presence of Kraken’s Kiss will enhance monitoring and surveillance capabilities in the West Philippine Sea.
  • Non-Violent Approach: The project emphasizes a peaceful approach to protecting Filipino Fisherfolks’ rights and maintaining regional stability.

Project Status:

  • Design Phase: The project is currently in the design phase. The initial plan to lay the keel for the Kraken’s Kiss Model 1 in spring was deemed premature due to design concerns. The focus has shifted to the Kraken’s Kiss Model II, but the keel laying date is uncertain due to resource constraints.
  • Funding: The project is seeking funding through donations and grants. The estimated cost per vessel is $42,000 USD.
  • Social Media Presence: The project has an active presence on social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and a Spotify podcast. Recently we added Bluesky to our Social Media outlets.
