An Introduction, Offered Carefully
Today is All Souls’ Day. In the Catholic tradition, it is not a day for the canonized and celebrated saints, but for the ordinary dead—the faithful departed, the beloved, the unfinished stories that still live in the minds of those who remain.
It is a day for prayers, not performances.
What This Day Is For
All Souls’ Day is observed with Mass, visits to cemeteries, candles, and quiet acts of devotion. The point is not to summon the dead back into the world, but to acknowledge them without spectacle, without bargaining, and without pretending that loss can be optimized or explained away.
This is a day for love that no longer has a place to go except memory.
On One Face, Held Still
If you have a photograph of Luz lined up, this is the right day for it. Not as content. Not as an update. Not as something to be circulated, measured, or reacted to.
Simply as presence.
The modern world treats images as signals. All Souls’ Day treats an image differently. It allows a face to remain what it always was: a person, not a message.
A Closing Thought
In a month filled with portraits, we end here—with one that does not ask to be seen.
It asks only to be remembered.
